U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, U.S. Representative Jamaal Bowman, and U.S. Representative Mondaire Jones today announced $8,161,540 in federal funding for the Westchester County Airport in White Plains, New York. The funding was authorized and appropriated by the American Rescue Plan and administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation. Specifically, the funding will be used to defray costs related to operations, personnel, cleaning, sanitization, janitorial services, debt service payments, and combating the spread of pathogens at the airport.
“Improvements to Westchester County Airport means the continued success of the community and the entire Hudson Valley region,” said Senator Schumer. “As Westchester begins to recover from the economic and global pandemic that first touched down in their county, it’s imperative they have the support needed to make their county hub—HPN—the gateway needed to boost community development, which is why I fought hard to include funding to make improvements to the airport in the American Rescue Plan. I will always work with the community to fight for the Hudson Valley’s economic take off.”
“This federal funding is great news for the Westchester County Airport, which will be able to make necessary renovations to their facilities and help improve safety for travelers flying in and out of Westchester County,” said Senator Gillibrand. “Investing in airport infrastructure helps promote local economic development in our communities, and I will do everything I can to ensure that our airports receive the resources they need to be safe, modern, and efficient.”
“The American Rescue Plan has been essential to ensuring that our local economies are able to rebuild after the pandemic, and I’m grateful to have been able to have been able to work with my colleagues to pass it. Driving economic growth to our communities and ensuring the safety and longevity of crucial infrastructure like our airports is a top priority, which is why this allocation of more than $8.1 million in federal funds for Westchester County Airport is such good news,” said Rep. Bowman.
“Like so many institutions, the COVID-19 crisis had a devastating financial impact on Westchester Airport, which many of my constituents rely on every day,” said Rep. Jones. “Thanks to the American Rescue Plan, which I was proud to help pass, Westchester Airport is getting the funding it needs to recover from the past year and Build Back Better while continuing to deliver the quality service our district deserves.”
“Thanks to the leadership of U.S. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and our congressional delegation, the vital transportation hub that is the Westchester County Airport can continue to serve as an economic driver for our entire region while giving travelers peace of mind that they are entering a clean, sanitized and modern operation. These funds will help us carry on the important work at the airport and help to ensure the safety of all who utilize it,” said Westchester County Executive, George Latimer.
This funding is awarded through the American Rescue Plan, is administered by the U.S. Department of Transportation, and distributed through the Federal Aviation Administration. More information on this grant award can be found here.
