Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $7,554 in federal funding for the Town of Newburgh Emergency Medical Services. The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program. Specifically, the Town of Newburgh Emergency Medical Services will use the federal funding to upgrade their communications equipment to coordinate with 911.
“These much needed federal funds will provide crucial assistance, such as improving existing facilities and upgrading personal protective equipment the Town of Newburgh Emergency Services needs and deserves. These first responders risk their lives every day, protecting and safeguarding our residents and loved ones. It is our responsibility to ensure they have the proper resources and funding to perform their duties safely and effectively,” said Senator Schumer.
“These federal funds will allow our first responders in the Town of Newburgh to purchase the up-to-date equipment they need to stay safe and do their jobs effectively,” said Senator Gillibrand. “We need to do everything we can to protect the men and women who risk their lives every day in the face of danger, and I will always fight in the Senate to make sure that our first responders are given the support they deserve.”
The Assistance to Firefighters Grants are administered by the Department of Homeland Security Federal Emergency Management Agency in cooperation with the Department’s United States Fire Administration. The grants are awarded on a competitive basis to the applicants that most closely address the program’s priorities and demonstrate financial need. Funding is allocated to strengthen emergency preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.
