Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten E. Gillibrand announced that Syracuse Hancock Airport is set to receive $2,137,500 in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) funds for airport facility upgrades. Specifically, the grant will help ease passenger access to the airport by replacing signage that will streamline traffic flow.
“This Federal Aviation Administration grant will ensure that the Syracuse Hancock Airport can better serve residents and visitors to Central New York and help boost the area’s economy,” said Senator Schumer. “Modern signs that can reflect up to the minute delays and traffic changes are essential to keeping business and recreational travelers safe and moving to their destinations on time.”
“This is a smart investment for Syracuse Hancock International Airport,” Senator Gillibrand said. “This federal funding will help keep travelers and businesses on the move, and create better access to Central New York to help strengthen the local economy.”
“As the point of entry for a million people flying into central New York annually, signage is essential,” Syracuse Mayor Stephanie A. Miner said. “The Entrance Road Signage Improvement project, recently approved for funding by the Federal Aviation Administration, will allow us to update existing signage, and incorporate new, LED programmable signs to keep the traveling public and visitors informed as the enter and exit the airport.”
Syracuse Hancock International Airport will use the DOT funding to replace nearly obsolete signage on the entrance road. This will smooth the flow of traffic to and from the airport and re-direct passengers to overflow parking in order to reduce vehicle congestion at the airport terminal.
