U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $1,023,300 in federal funding for the Greater Binghamton/Edwin A. Link Field Airport to improve their infrastructure through rehabilitating the existing runway pavement. The funding is allocated through the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
“This Department of Transportation grant will ensure that Greater Binghamton/Edwin A. Link Field can continue to safely serve residents, businesses and all visitors to the Capital Region,” said Senator Schumer. “Maintaining safety of the runway is a sure sign that Link Field will remain a safe destination that continues to boost the economy for years to come.”
“This is an important investment for the Greater Binghamton/Edwin A. Link Field Airport and the surrounding region,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Ensuring that the airport infrastructure is safe and up-to-date can help keep travelers and businesses on the move, and help strengthen the local economy.”
The funding allocated through the grant will be used specifically to provide for phase I of a project to rehabilitate the north apron as the existing runway pavement has been structurally compromised and is in need of upgrades to maintain the integrity of the pavement.
