Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Nearly $15K in Fed Funds for Sidney Emergency Medical Services in Delaware County

Apr 12, 2017

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $14,903 in federal funding for Sidney EMS in Delaware County. The funding was allocated through the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG). Specifically, the funding will be used to improve their ability to protect the health and safety of the public and allow them to purchase critical safety and operations supplies.

“The Sidney EMS technicians are local heroes who are oftentimes the first medical responders on the scene as they serve this community,” said Senator Schumer. “They deserve the best equipment so they can continue to excel at their life-saving work. This federal funding will ensure that their ability to respond quickly and provide critical emergency medical care will only get better.”

“These federal funds will allow our first responders in Delaware County to purchase the up-to-date equipment they need to stay safe and do their jobs effectively,” said Senator Gillibrand. “I pushed for this funding because we need to do everything we can to protect the men and women who risk their lives every day in the face of danger, and I will always fight in the Senate to make sure that our first responders are given the support they deserve.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grants are administered by the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in cooperation with the Department’s United States Fire Administration (USFA). The grants are awarded on a competitive basis to the applicants that most closely address the program’s priorities and demonstrate financial need. Funding is allocated to strengthen the overall level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards.
