Today, U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand announced $149,400 in federal funding for new snow removal equipment at LeRoy Airport. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
“This funding will ensure that LeRoy Airport will remain safely open during those harsh unexpected winter storms,” said Senator Schumer. “I applaud the DOT for helping LeRoy Airport continue to serve residents, businesses and all visitors, no matter the season.”
“This is a great investment for LeRoy Aviation Services,” Senator Gillibrand said. “With winter right around the corner, upgraded snow removal equipment can help clear runways faster, keep more flights on time, and provide safer service for travelers and businesses even during some of the harshest winter conditions.”
“LeRoy Airport would like to thank Senator Gillibrand, Senator Schumer, and Congresswoman Kathy Hochul for their efforts to ensure that LeRoy Airport will be receiving modern snow removal equipment to maintain its state of the art airport. Through this grant, LeRoy airport will be better able to serve both the Flying and non-flying Aviation community that utilize the LeRoy airport,” said Raymond S. Detor Jr., President of LeRoy Aviation Services.
The federal funding will specifically be used to purchase a tractor with a snow blower attachment and a truck with plow to be used for snow removal. This will allow the airport to accommodate many business jets and larger planes traveling to international destinations.
