Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced a grant of $368,000 and a loan of $455,000 for the Town of Richmond in Ontario County. The federal funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program and will be used to install a new water main, valves, fire hydrants and other items needed to support the construction of a clean water supply and fire-protection system.
“This federal funding is great news for Ontario County and the Town of Richmond,” said Senator Schumer. “Expanding the water system is a wise infrastructure investment that will enhance public health, public safety and economic development. This federal funding will take a tremendous financial burden off of the county and the Town of Richmond to begin construction right away on a project that is vital to its long-term health and prosperity.”
“This is an important investment for the Town of Richmond,” Senator Gillibrand said. “This upgrade to the town’s critical water infrastructure will help protect the health and quality of life of residents by delivering clean water to more local families. It will also help keep families and businesses safe with the installation of new fire hydrants.”
“The funding will be used to put a water extension on Ashley and White road in the Town of Richmond,” said Ralph Angelo, Town of Richmond Supervisor. “Without the Rural Development funding we in the Town of Richmond could not do these sorts water projects in our community, and are greatly appreciative to USDA for awarding us this opportunity.”
USDA Rural Development’s Water and Waste Disposal Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
