U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport will receive $585,000.00 in funding from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) for airport upgrades. This project will fund the acquisition of a new replacement Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting vehicle to assist the airport in meeting safety requirements.
This is great news for those who fly in and out of the Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport every day,” said Senator Schumer. “With this funding, the airport will be able to purchase the crucial safety and rescue equipment needed to ensure the safety of passengers and pilots during emergency situations. I will continue to fight for funds like these, which promote safety and growth for the Southern Tier’s key aviation assets.”
“This funding will help support critical safety upgrades to Ithaca Tompkins Regional Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand. Tompkins Airport is a vital economic anchor that businesses and travelers rely on every day and I will continue to push for funding for resources that enhance efficiency and public safety.”
This funding for Ithaca Tompkins Airport in New York is part of the Airport Improvement Program and is administered by DOT’s Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
