Announcement Includes Fed $$ From FAA’s Airport Infrastructure Grant Program, Which Schumer Fought Hard To Create In Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law – Funding Will Support Projects To Create New & Improved Terminals, Taxiways, Signage & More At Airports Across Upstate NY
Senators: Thanks To Fed $$ We Are Seeing Much-Needed Airport Improvements Take Off Across Upstate NY!
U.S. Senate Majority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $5,252,378 in federal funding for airports across Upstate NY. The funding will be used to support airport safety and infrastructure improvement projects across 9 airports. This federal funding was administered through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s Airport Infrastructure Grant program, which Schumer fought hard to create and fund in his Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law. The projects include developing and implementing new airport safety plans and constructing and expanding terminals, taxiways, and airport signage.
“The Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law is helping blow new life into our airports across the North Country and Upstate NY. From our big cities to our rural communities, Upstate NY’s regional airports are gateways for commerce, our tourism industry and vital connecters for our residents and we need to ensure they have the resources they need to deliver a safe and comfortable experience to travelers,” said Senator Schumer. “This $5+ million federal investment in new terminals, taxiways, signage, and other critical infrastructure upgrades will help airports from Ogdensburg to Plattsburgh to reach new heights. I fought hard to secure billions in federal funding in my Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law for the Airport Infrastructure Grant program because I know that airport improvements will boost our local economies, and so far we’ve delivered over $400 million to airports across NY through this program. I’m proud to deliver more today so that these critical airport upgrades can take off.”
“New York’s airports welcome millions of travelers each year and it is vital that they have up-to-date infrastructure needed for passengers to take off and land safely,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This $5+ million in federal funding will bring much-needed safety and infrastructure improvements to airports across Upstate New York. I am proud to have worked to secure this funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and will continue fighting to bring vital modernization and improvements to airports across New York State.”
“The Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority extends our deepest thanks to Senator Schumer for his unwavering support and leadership in securing the BIL AIG grant for the Ogdensburg International Airport,” said Steve Lawrence, Executive Director of the Ogdensburg Bridge and Port Authority. “This funding is crucial for the ongoing renovation and modernization of our terminal, ensuring that we can continue to serve our community and visitors with state-of-the-art facilities.”
The senators explained that the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment & Jobs Law provided $5 billion in competitive grants for airport terminal development projects that address the aging infrastructure of the nation’s airports, and this represents the latest round of the funding. Funding can be used for runways, taxiways, safety and sustainability projects, as well as terminal, airport-transit connections, and roadway projects. In the past three years since the AIG was bolstered in the Bipartisan Infrastructure & Jobs Law, the senators have delivered over $400 million to airports across New York.
