U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $185,000 in federal funding is being awarded to Oneonta Municipal Airport to improve runway safety. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.
“This Department of Transportation grant will ensure that Oneonta Municipal can continue to safely serve residents, businesses and visitors to region for years to come,” said Senator Schumer. “Maintaining a safe runway is essential for the success and growth of Oneonta Municipal Airport.”
“This is an important investment for the Oneonta Municipal Airport and the surrounding region,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Improving the safety of the airport’s runway can help provide better, more efficient service for travelers and business, while ensuring that aircraft can take off and land safely.”
The federal funding will specifically be used to improve runway safety by removing obstructions in the Runway 24 approach to ensure the safety of airport operations and that people and commerce can move through the airport at the highest efficiency.
