U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $6,199,493 in federal funding for airports and transportation authorities throughout New York. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
“Keeping our airports in top-notch shape is crucial for passenger safety and for attracting business to Upstate New York,” said Senator Schumer. “With this funding, airports across New York will make critical infrastructure upgrades such as rehabilitation of runways, investments in weather reporting, and improvements to airport access and security. This funding will improve the safety and operations for those that fly in and out of Upstate New York.”
“Investing in local airport infrastructure is critical to New York’s economic development,” said Senator Gillibrand. “With this federal funding, airports throughout New York will be able to invest in projects to expand and modernize their facilities, as well as enhance safety for travelers flying throughout the state. I will always fight for the resources to strengthen our transportation infrastructure.”

The Airport Improvement Program provides grants to public agencies for the planning and development of public-use airports that are included in the National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems (NPIAS). Funds obligated for the AIP are drawn from the Airport and Airway Trust Fund, which is supported by user fees, fuel taxes, and other similar revenue sources.
