Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement today after Palestinian leadership presented its latest proposal in an attempt to achieve statehood through unilateral actions at the United Nations:
“I am disappointed that the Palestinian leadership continues to try to circumvent a negotiated agreement with Israel. A real and sustainable solution to this conflict can only be achieved through negotiations between the two parties, with the goal of Israel living side-by-side in peace with a future Palestinian state. One-sided attempts to dictate the terms, like this newly proposed UN resolution, will only undermine this effort. The United States has made clear that any agreement must be negotiated directly between the two parties, and the Administration was right to immediately reject this proposal.”
