Addressing Senate passage of the Inflation Reduction Act, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement:
“Today, Democrats continued their streak of delivering big for the American people. In just the past few weeks, Democrats have delivered the first bipartisan gun safety package in decades, a major expansion of health care for our nation’s veterans, innovative legislation to combat the semiconductor shortage, growing job numbers, and the lowest unemployment rate we’ve seen in fifty years, and now we have passed the Inflation Reduction Act through the Senate.
This comprehensive bill will lower prescription drug prices and health care costs, fight inflation, reduce energy bills, extend critical Affordable Care Act subsidies, and close tax loopholes abused by wealthy corporations, and it includes the most significant climate investment in our nation’s history – all while paying down our national debt. The nearly $370 billion investment in energy and climate spending will reduce carbon emissions by nearly 40% by 2030 and take us a huge step forward in reaching our green energy goals to address the climate crisis. The Inflation Reduction Act was written and passed for working people and working families. Now it’s time for the House to pass this bill and send it to President Biden’s desk for him to sign into law.”
