Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement regarding New York City Mayor Eric Adams declaring a state of emergency due to the migrant buses arriving from out-of-state:
“New York City has a long history and proud tradition of welcoming immigrant families from around the globe, who have thrived, becoming important pillars of the local economy and culture.
“Coordination and communication is incredibly important in ensuring we direct the needed resources to accommodate families coming to New York, something that is lacking from elected officials using immigrants seeking asylum as political props.
“I stand ready to help in any way I can, including securing more federal funds for New York City and other impacted cities, reforming the immigration court system to function much more efficiently, and continuing to advocate for much needed comprehensive immigration reform.”
