Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, today joined with local leaders to dedicate the U.S. Post Office in Baldwinsville, New York, after fallen Marine Corporal Kyle Schneider. The legislation to rename of the post office passed Congress and was signed into law by President Obama in December. Schneider grew up in the Town of Lysander, New York, and is a 2006 graduate of C.W. Baker High School in Baldwinsville.
“Marine Corporal Schneider is truly a hometown hero,” Senator Gillibrand said. “He made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, serving with honor, integrity and dignity. Naming the Baldwinsville Post Office after him will honor his legacy in his community.”
Rick and Lorie Schneider said, “We appreciate this special tribute of honor and remembrance to our beloved Kyle. Thank you to all that made it possible.”
One month before his death, Schneider was knocked unconscious by an improvised explosive device, but through his determination, was back out with the other Marines within two days. Schneider died in Afghanistan on June 30, 2011 from a second IED.
For Kyle’s tour of duty, he received the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal with “V” Device for Valor, the Combat Action Ribbon, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal, the ISAF NATO Medal, and he was awarded two Purple Heart Medals.
