Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand helped secure overdue payments from the federal government for Enviren Services Inc., a small business located in Binghamton. In 2010, Enviren received a contract from the United States Navy to support closing and relocating the Naval Weapons Research Station in Colts Neck, New Jersey. Payment from the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) was due in mid October, but was never paid. With payment several weeks overdue, Enviren Services Inc. was at risk of losing jobs as well as retirement accounts just to keep their business running. Senator Gillibrand’s office expedited the process, directly contacting DFAS. Within days Enviren Services Inc. received a payment of $461,000 for their work.
“It is critical that small businesses have an opportunity to thrive and not be held back by red tape,“ said Senator Gillibrand. “Small businesses are our number one job creators. There is no reason for the federal government to hold up payments to local, small businesses like Enviren Services Inc. It is absolutely imperative that we ensure support for small business by having more streamline access to the federal monies they have earned through their hard work.”
Enviren Service Inc. President Teri Rennia said, “As a small business that is continuously looking for ways to grow and expand, we are thrilled to have any opportunity to work with the Federal Government. Unfortunately, the system can be very challenging to get through. We are very grateful for Senator Gillibrand’s efforts on our behalf. We look forward to continuing to provide service to the US Navy and other Federal Agencies.”
Enviren Services Inc.’s federal contract is to support the Base Realignment and Closure decision to close and relocate of the Naval Weapons Research in Colts Neck, New Jersey to Picatinny Arsenal in northern New Jersey. With the assistance of Senator Gillibrand, Enviren Services Inc. was able to secure the overdue $461,000 federal contracting funds for their work and are able to continue their work in New York’s Southern Tier.
