Washington, D.C. – As the U.S. Senate prepares to vote to confirm U.S. Solicitor General Elena Kagan to be the next U.S. Supreme Court Justice, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement in support of her nomination.
Senator Gillibrand met with Solicitor General Kagan in her Washington office in May.
“Solicitor General Kagan is a strong, brilliant New Yorker, and I am proud to support her confirmation for the Supreme Court. Her historic achievements as the first woman to become Dean of Harvard Law School, and the first woman to serve as U.S. Solicitor General, demonstrates her level of excellence and strength of character. Solicitor General Kagan’s record of achievement, respect for the rule of law, and ability to build consensus has earned her strong, bipartisan support. I believe she is exactly the kind of Justice we need on the high court and I urge my colleagues to join me in support of her confirmation.”
