Apr 22, 2014

Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced a $6,498,003 federal grant for Action For A Better Community (ABC), a Rochester community based agency. Funding for ABC will support the Early Learning and Head Start programs that provide education and development services for low-income children.

“This is a smart investment that can help give more Rochester children the chance they deserve to start out strong, and go as far as their own hard work will take them,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal dollars for Action for a Better Community will help this strong organization deliver quality education, access to food and other critical services that our children and families deserve.”

“We are thrilled to receive these funds which are re-instated from the sequestration,” said Loretta Kruger, Deputy Director of Early Childhood Services for Action for a Better Community. “We appreciate everything Senator Gillibrand has done to restore this funding. This funding will help us continue to provide Head Start services to low-income families in Monroe County.”

Head Start and Early Head Start programs provides comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and families. The programs are child-focused and focus on preparing children for school.

Action for a Better Community has worked to empower low-income families in Rochester and Monroe County to become self-sufficient since 1965.
