Today, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced her assignment as chair of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee. The subcommittee has jurisdiction over matters relating to active and reserve military personnel, including compensation, benefits, health care, education, child care, military justice, and more. In this role, Senator Gillibrand will advocate for the well-being of military families, and will also be able to address deficiencies in the military justice system.
“I am honored to serve as the chair of the Senate Armed Services Personnel Subcommittee, where I will be a tireless advocate for the health, safety and morale of our service members and their families. In the past, I’ve been able to secure a wide array of important provisions for military families, such as funding to improve housing on military bases and expanded child care options, and I look forward to continuing this important work. In addition, I will continue fighting to reform the military justice system in order to end the ongoing epidemic of sexual assault in the military. Our service members risk their lives to keep us safe, and I will ensure that our military operates in a manner worthy of their dedication.”
