Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $95,000 in grants from the Department of Transportation to improve Griffiss International Airport. The federal dollars will help support job creation and move forward on studies to improve the airport’s impact on wildlife in the region, as well as improvements to de-icing and drainage methods.
“This funding is critical to the safety of our airports, passengers and surrounding environment,” said Schumer. “These grants will help keep our airports running smoothly to help keep our passengers safe and to improve the quality of life for the residents and wildlife near the airport.”
“This is great news for the Griffiss International Airport and the Rome community,” Senator Gillibrand said. “It will help support job creation for the area and advance critical studies to improve the airport and its impact on its surrounding environment. I will continue working with Senator Schumer and the entire New York Delegation to make sure New York gets its fair share of federal dollars.”
The federal investment will help initiate studies to make improvements at the airport, including examining wildlife hazard management and improvements to the airport’s drainage and de-icing systems in an effort to reduce the airport’s impact on the environment.
