Gillibrand Praises Feds’ Decision To Include Northeast Corridor In Competition For High Speed Rail Funding

Mar 15, 2011

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement after Transportation Secretary Ray Lahood’s announcement today designating New York’s Northeast Corridor as the eleventh and final High-Speed Rail corridor, which allows the Northeast Corridor to compete for all federal high-speed  rail funding opportunities:

“This is great news for New York’s economy. Putting New York’s Northeast Corridor on equal footing for high-speed rail projects and new federal investments for these critical transportation projects can help bring new jobs to New York and help drive New York’s economic development for decades. If we’re going to rebuild our economy and create new jobs across the state, we need to connect New York’s communities, businesses and workers with high-speed rail.”

With federal government’s High-Speed Rail Corridor designation, the Northeast Corridor is now part of a total 11 infrastructure projects nationwide that are eligible for all federal high-speed rail funding programs.
