Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand and Representative Bill Owens today announced $325,000 in federal funding for the Village of Castorland in Lewis County. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Water and Waste Disposal Loan and Grant program and will be used to upgrade the sewer collection system and to construct a sewer treatment plant.
“It is difficult to attract new residents and businesses with a faulty sewer system. That is why this funding, and the sewer repairs that will get underway as a result, is so important for the future of the Village of Castorland,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal funding will take a tremendous financial burden off of the Village and allow Castorland to begin construction right away on a project that is vital to its long-term prosperity.”
“This is a much needed investment for the Village of Castorland,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Upgrading water infrastructure is an effective way to support local businesses and attract new jobs. This critical funding will help enhance resident’s quality of life by delivering clean water to more local families.”
“This funding supports critical improvements to infrastructure that will help ensure the community has access to basic water services. These investments improve quality of life for residents, support tourism and encourage local businesses to grow and create jobs here. I applaud the U.S.D.A. for funding this project,” said Representative Bill Owens.
“This USDA funding is appreciated and will help the Village of Castorland to meet the infrastructure needs of our community”, said Mark Moshier, Mayor of Castorland.
USDA Rural Development’s Water and Environmental Program provides loans and grants to ensure that the necessary investments are made in water and wastewater infrastructure to deliver safe drinking water and protect the environment in rural areas.
