Washington, D.C. – As
President Obama plans to lift the ban on federal funding for embryonic
stem cell research, New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the
following statement:
“Stem cell research holds the promise to cure some of humanity’s oldest and deadliest diseases.
“There
is no greater heartbreak than watching a family member or a loved one
suffer from a disease like Parkinson’s or Juvenile Diabetes, knowing
that there is research out there that can one day provide a cure.
“I
know there are medical institutions and experts across New York that
have been waiting for this change and will benefit from the flow of
federal dollars. I applaud President Obama for delivering swift action
on this and I look forward to working with his administration to invest
in life-saving research.”
While in Congress, Senator Gillibrand voted to repeal President Bush’s ban on federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.
