Gillibrand Introduces Legislation To Name Hornell Post Office After Hometown Hero Zachary Smith

Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today introduced legislation that would rename the Post Office in Hornell after Marine Lance Cpl. Zachary Smith.

“Zachary Smith is truly a hometown hero,” Senator Gillibrand said. “He made the ultimate sacrifice for our country, serving with honor, integrity and dignity. Naming the Hornell Post Office after him will honor his legacy in his community.”

Marine Lance Cpl. Smith grew up in Hornell, New York, where he graduated high school in 2008. According to news reports, Smith was killed by an explosive device while supporting the defense of his combat unit. President Obama and the Marine Corps posthumously awarded Smith a Purple Heart.
