“While I support the initiatives in the Veterans First Act, this is not how we should be funding these important measures. The New GI Bill is a critical tool in the reintegration of our veterans after service and we should be looking for ways to fund these new and improved veterans programs without harming this program. I am also frustrated that the Blue Water Navy Vietnam Veterans Act was excluded from the Veterans First Act. Thousands of Vietnam Veterans are suffering horrific health challenges as a result of their exposure to Agent Orange and since the Department of Veterans Affairs will not help them, it is up to Congress to act.”
