Senator Gillibrand Preps President Obama for the NCAA Tourney

Mar 18, 2009

Washington, D.C. – New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand is sending President Obama a
Syracuse Orange t-shirt before the start of March Madness this week.
Yesterday, in an interview with Good Morning America, President
Obama said he liked Syracuse’s chances in the tournament.  Senator
Gillibrand also sent bumper stickers for the three other New York teams
in the tournament.

“I
am so pleased to hear that President Obama likes Syracuse’s chances in
the big dance,” said Senator Gillibrand.  “The Orange have had a great
season and they deserve Presidential support going into the
tournament.  Personally, I have a hard time picking between all the New
York teams in the tournament.  I congratulate all of them on a
successful season and will be cheering hard for all of them this week.”

In
addition to Syracuse, four other New York teams earned invitations to
the NCAA tournament this year, including Cornell University, Siena
College, Binghamton, and the Marist Red Foxes, who earned a trip to the
Women’s NCAA tournament.  The Binghamton Bearcats are playing in their
first NCAA tournament ever, having won the America East championship.
Niagara University earned a trip to the NIT, but lost to Rhode Island
last night.
