Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand released the following statement today as President Obama is set to formally announce U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch as his nominee to become the next Attorney General of the United States:
“President Obama has made a fantastic choice by nominating Loretta Lynch for Attorney General. I have long fought in the Senate to add more women to the federal bench, and am pleased to see such a highly qualified woman make history as the nation’s top law enforcement official.
“Loretta Lynch has served with great distinction in Brooklyn, and her experience here as a prosecutor and working on terrorism will serve her exceptionally well in Washington. She is an exceptionally well-qualified candidate for the job, and she deserves a swift nomination process from Congress.”
