Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $693,500 in federal funding for Westchester County Airport from the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT). The funds will be used to upgrade the noise monitoring system at the airport and to acquire a de-icing vehicle to deice departing aircraft during adverse weather conditions.
“This funding is critical to the safety of our airports, passengers and surrounding environment,” said Schumer. “These grants will help keep our airports running smoothly to help keep our passengers safe and to improve the quality of life for residents who live near the airport.”
“These are great investments for the Westchester County Airport,” said Senator Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee. “These federal dollars will help reduce noise to bring relief for families living in the area, provide critical de-icing equipment to help keep flights on time during bad weather and reduce the airport’s impact on the surrounding environment. I will continue working with Senator Schumer and the entire New York Delegation to make sure New York gets its fair share from the federal government.”
According to the DOT grant, these funds will provide federal funding for noise mitigation measures and the purchase of a de-icing vehicle at Westchester County Airport. This project will upgrade the noise monitoring system at the airport and will assist with addressing environmental noise issues. The vacuum truck is needed for the safe and efficient collection and disposal of excess deicing fluids during adverse weather conditions.
