Washington,
DC – A Long Island National Guardsman who recently returned from his
second tour of duty will join New York Senator Kirsten Gillibrand for
the President’s State of the Union address tonight.
First Lieutenant Louis Delli-Pizzi, a member of the National Guard’s Fighting 69th infantry out of Huntington and Bay Shore, recently returned to his job
as a detective for the New York City Police Department after spending
the past year on duty in Afghanistan. His previous tour of duty was in
Iraq in 2004 and 2005.
Senator
Gillibrand and Delli-Pizzi met on Friday during Senator Gillibrand’s
visit to Long Island. The two discussed ongoing economic recovery
efforts and the need to create more jobs for veterans and men and women
in uniform. Beth, Delli-Pizzi’s wife, is the President of the Fighting
69th Family Readiness Group.
“I
am pleased Lt. Delli-Pizzi is joining me for the State of the Union,”
said Senator Gillibrand. “The members of our military put their lives
on the line to keep us safe, yet struggle to find jobs when they come
home. I am working to provide job training and employment assistance to
the men and women returning home and deliver the benefits our veterans
have earned.”
Senator
Gillibrand also urged local employers to attend an upcoming job fair
that the 69th Infantry is holding on Saturday. The job fair is intended
to connect local combat veterans and families with local employers,
social services, education and veteran’s benefits. The event will begin
at 11:30 at D Co 1/69 INF in Bay Shore.
