Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand
today issued the following statement praising President Obama’s decision to
nominate New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Thomas R. Frieden as the next
director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention:
“President Obama could not have made a better pick to lead the CDC at this
critical time. Dr. Frieden has ushered in groundbreaking reforms to improve
public health and safety for the citizens of New York City. During the last
several weeks, he has demonstrated his effectiveness and competence in the face
of a serious health crisis.
“His leadership at the frontlines in New York City will serve as a model for
the solutions we can put in place to improve public health for the entire
nation.
“Dr. Frieden has a critical understanding of the challenges we face. I am
confident he will provide the kind of leadership we need now more than ever,
and I look forward to working with him to forge the right solutions to improve
public health and keep all Americans safe.”
