Washington, D.C. – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $2,521,071 in federal funding for Cortland County Community Action Program, Inc. (CAPCO), a Central New York community based organization. This federal investment will support Early Learning and Head Start programs that provide education and development services for low-income children.
“This is a smart investment that can help give more Cortland County children the chance they deserve to start out strong, and go as far as their own hard work will take them,” Senator Gillibrand said. “These federal dollars for Cortland County will help deliver quality education that our children need.”
Brian Rozewski, Director of Head Start and Early Head Start said, “This money will be used to serve expectant mothers and children up to five. We want to engage our families while also preparing our children for school. We are grateful that this money is coming into the county and will use it to better the lives of children and families in Cortland county.”
Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide comprehensive child development programs for children from birth to age 5, pregnant women, and families. The programs focus on preparing children for school.
CAPCO has been serving children in Cortland County since 1974. Along with Head Start, they provide energy services to low income families to help reduce costs as well as the Women, Infants and Children program, which provides nutritious food and counselling services. CAPCO also provides services for Medicaid eligible individuals as well as family development programs, to support local Cortland families.
