Today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $82,000 in federal funding for the Philmont Fire Department. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Rural Development Community Facility Congressionally Directed Spending (CDS) grant funds and will be used to allow the Philmont Fire Department to purchase 11 new air packs for its firefighters. Currently, the fire department’s air packs are over 20 years old and are no longer safe for firefighter use.
“Our brave Philmont firefighters are on the front lines risking their lives to protect our communities every single day,” said Senator Schumer. “These courageous first responders deserve all the federal support possible to ensure they have the modern firefighting equipment they need to keep themselves and New Yorkers in Philmont safe. I’ve fought my whole career to deliver resources for New York’s firefighters, and todays $82,000 will keep Philmont’s dedicated firefighters prepared to take on any emergency.”
“New York’s firefighters work tirelessly to protect our communities,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This federal funding will ensure that the Philmont Fire Department has the modern technology firefighters need to save lives. I am proud to deliver this funding and will continue working to ensure that New York’s fire departments have what they need to continue defending our communities on the front lines.”
