Today, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $982,640 in federal funding for planning projects to improve the safety of New York roadways. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning Grant program and will be used to develop planning and demonstration projects to improve roadway safety and help prevent deaths and serious injuries on New York’s roads.
“Roadway safety is a top priority, and because of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, that I led to passage as majority leader, we now finally have the funding to overcome long-standing roadblocks to highway safety,” said Senator Schumer. “This nearly $1 million federal boost will help prevent car accidents, improve traffic education, and make our roads safer for drivers across the Empire State. These grants will save lives, and I am proud to have paved the way to make it happen.”
“Investing in projects that improve roadway safety is vital to preventing future traffic tragedies in our communities,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding will allow these communities to develop and implement critical safety plans to address roadway safety issues. I am proud to deliver this funding and will keep fighting to make our roads safer.”
