U.S. Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $4,500,000 in federal funding allocated by the Department of Housing and Urban Development for the Community Compass Technical Assistance and Capacity Building Program (Community Compass). This funding was secured under the CARES Act and will support technical assistance to help HUD grantees navigate a wide variety of complex housing issues. The Corporation for Supportive Housing will receive $4,000,000 in funding and the Local Initiative Support Corporation will receive $500,000.
“These federal funds provide critical help to community organizations in New York who are working hard to bring supportive, affordable housing to those who need it most during this unprecedented health crisis,” said Senator Schumer. “I will continue to fight for critical investments like these to support affordable housing for those in need both during and after the coronavirus pandemic.”
“As public health officials ask New Yorkers to stay home, we need to ease the burden of housing insecurity,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding will help provide New Yorkers with access to safe and affordable housing during these uncertain times. I am proud to have fought to secure this funding allocated in the CARES Act, and I will continue to advocate for New Yorkers during this pandemic.”
Community Compass is designed to help HUD’s customers navigate complex housing and community development challenges by equipping them with the knowledge, skills, tools, capacity, and systems to implement HUD programs and policies successfully. The goal of Community Compass is to empower communities by providing effective technical assistance and capacity building so that successful program implementation is sustained over the long term.
