Today, Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand announced $11,599,039 in federal funding for Early Head Start programs across New York State. The funding was allocated through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and will be used to provide comprehensive early childhood education and support services to low-income children and families.
“It has been proven time and time again the better we prepare our young children, through programs like Head Start, the better they perform in school later in life,” said Senator Schumer. “This federal funding for students across New York will produce real results for our young scholars by providing them and their families with the resources they need to succeed both in and out of the classroom. I am proud to support this essential funding and I will continue to fight to ensure that early childhood education remains a priority across the empire state.”
“Programs like Head Start ensure that young children are equipped with the essential tools they need to build a solid foundation and sets them up for a successful life,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding will help ensure that young children and families across New York State will have accessible and quality child care and support services. I will continue working to ensure that these vital programs have the funding and resources they need to prepare young children for a successful future.”
Head Start programs provide low-income children from birth to age five with comprehensive child development programs, as well as support and services for families. The comprehensive services Head Start and Early Head Start offer include early education, health screenings, promoting social and emotional health, nutrition, connection to other social services, and services for children with disabilities.
