U.S. Senate Minority Leader Charles E. Schumer and U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand today announced $499,871 in Full Service Community Schools (FSCS) Program funding for United Way of Buffalo and Erie County. This funding was provided by the U.S. Department of Education’s Fund for the Improvement of Education (FIE) and will be used to improve the quality of elementary and secondary education in Upstate New York.
“A high quality elementary and secondary education is the foundation on which our children can build successful and fulfilling lives,” said Senator Schumer. “The Full-Service Community Schools program will provide much-needed support for Erie County’s students, as well as for their families and caretakers. Especially in times like these, schools deserve strong federal support to help them come back stronger than ever. I am proud to deliver this funding and will continue to fight tooth and nail to prepare our Erie County students for the rest of their lives.”
“Every student deserves access to a high-quality education and strong support system within their community,” said Senator Gillibrand. “The Full Service Community Schools Program will ensure that the Erie County community is able to provide comprehensive academic, social and health services to students, families, and community members in a school setting. This federal funding will not only provide New York’s students with the tools and support they need to succeed, but will also strengthen our local communities. I will always fight for resources that give the next generation opportunities to reach their full potential.”
