Washington, DC – Addressing the attack against the Jewish community in Monsey, New York, Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement:
“The attack last night on the Jewish community in Monsey is horrific and evil. Nothing could be more heinous than attacking worshippers gathered to celebrate their traditions, culture, and values. My heart breaks for the victims, and I am praying for them and their families in this terrible time.
Disturbingly, this is not an isolated incident. In the past few weeks, New York’s Jewish community has faced a surge in violence, and across the country, anti-Semitism is on the rise. We cannot, and will not, let this continue. We must all condemn these incidents, and work to ensure that every community is fighting against this rise in anti-Semitism. My office is monitoring this situation closely, and is working with local, state, and federal officials to combat this crisis. I will always stand with the Jewish community, and fight against hatred and prejudice in all its forms.”
