Washington, DC – U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand issued the following statement today supporting the new streamlined development plans for Peace Bridge Plaza:
“I am pleased that discussions of a smaller plaza concept are underway. Allowing for pre-screening of truck traffic along the Canadian border is a significant step forward in encouraging the growth of cross-border commerce and increasing economic opportunity for Western New York businesses. A smaller plaza will reduce the cost while expanding the overall capacity and easing congestion. It will also decrease the impact on the surrounding neighborhoods. I am hopeful that a consensus will be reached among all stakeholders, allowing this long-awaited and critical development to come to fruition to the benefit of the Buffalo-Niagara and Southern Ontario regions.”
