Schumer, Gillibrand Announce Over $2.1 Million for Plattsburgh International Airport

Sep 10, 2013

U.S. Senators Charles E. Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand today announced that $2,138,662 in federal grants is being awarded to the Plattsburgh International Airport to replace obsolete fuel tanks, move the location of the new fuel tanks and rehabilitate sections of the runway to maintain structural integrity. The funding is allocated through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) Airport Improvement Program.

“This Department of Transportation grant for new fuel tanks and runway repairs will ensure that Clinton County residents and all visitors to the North County can continue to access one of our nation’s most beautiful regions year round,” said Senator Schumer. “Whether they travel for business or pleasure, pilots and passengers can rest easy, knowing their plane is fueled up and ready for take-off on a safer, smoother runway at Plattsburgh International Airport.”

“This is an important investment for the Plattsburgh International Airport,” Senator Gillibrand said. “Improving the airport’s runway and fueling infrastructure can help provide better, safer service for travelers and businesses, and help strengthen the local economy.”

Specifically, a grant of $967,500 for the Plattsburgh International Airport will be used to relocate the existing fuel farm facility and replace two obsolete fuel tanks to ensure safety and that the airport operates at its highest efficiency. In addition, a grant of $1,171,162 will provide for the rehabilitation, through pavement joint resealing, of the Runway 17-35. This work is needed to maintain the structural integrity of the pavement and to minimize foreign object debris.
