Gillibrand Announces $600,000 for Multi-Craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program in Rochester; Funding Included in Bipartisan Funding Package

Dec 20, 2022

Today, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand revealed that the Multi-Craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program (M.A.P.P.), Inc. in Rochester will receive $600,000 in funding from the omnibus funding package for Fiscal Year (FY) 2023. The omnibus is expected to pass Congress and be signed into law this week. M.A.P.P. provides on-ramps for quality apprenticeship candidates, particularly candidates of color, seeking to become construction tradesmen. The program provides successful participants with direct entry placement into state certified union construction apprenticeships. The funding supports the Rochester Building & Construction Trades Council and will enable M.A.P.P. to enhance its capacity, broaden its reach and extend the opportunity to a larger pool of participants.

“Rochester is facing a shortage of construction tradesmen and it’s important that we fill this gap,” said Senator Gillibrand. “This funding will enable the Multi-Craft Apprenticeship Preparation Program in Rochester to find quality apprenticeship candidates and give them an on-ramp into an industry full of good-paying jobs. These construction apprenticeship candidates will help us build the foundation for Rochester’s future.”

The various trades where M.A.P.P. participants are placed include, but are not limited to, the Electricians Local Union #86, Masons Local Union #3, Sheet Metal workers Local Union #46, Operating Engineers Local Union #158, Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union #13, Painters and Glaziers DC4, Laborers Local Union #435, Roofers Local Union #22, Carpenters Local Union #276 and the Insulators Local Union #26.
